"Fashion-savvy" Taylor Lautner talks simple and comfortable style

Taylor Lautner, a.k.a. Jacob Black of the blockbuster movie franchise Twilight, was in town last week to meet his Filipino fans and promote his latest venture as the new “global Benchsetter” of fashion label Bench.
At the press conference, held August 16, the 21-year-old Hollywood hunk said that endorsing the brand wasn’t a hard decision to make because his style and the clothes simply jive.
"I am—first and foremost—comfort is huge for me. And I'm simple.
"I like simple. I'm a jeans and T-shirt guy, so I love some of Bench's really comfortable jeans and just simple V-neck T-shirts.
"But there are other stuff, like this jacket for example," referring to the blue blazer he was wearing over a plain white V-Neck top, teal pants, and brown leather boots at the presscon.
"I mean, what I love about Bench is you can dress it up or down, you know, the same outfit.
"I could show up at something in this jacket and I can make it look really fancy and spiffy or I can just wear it up and about and be cool and relaxed."
Program host Sam Oh was pretty impressed at how "fashion savvy" the actor sounded with his answer, and he replied, "Thank you. I'm trying really hard."
Taylor has not only found a new styling partner in the brand, but he also adds to its ever-growing list of international endorsers.
What does he think made him a "perfect fit" for the brand's image?
"You know, I am very... I'm relaxed and I like to be myself.
"And, like, I mean, going back to the comfort thing—'I can't do that if I'm not comfortable'—I just, I like to have a good time.
"I mean, all that Bench is about to me is being yourself, is expressing yourself, and being relaxed, and having fun; and I think it was just the perfect match."
Of course, Sam did not fail to ask about the thing that made Taylor famous with the ladies—his perfectly toned physique and rock-hard abs.
"Don't make me blush out here. There's lots of people watching," Taylor remarked with a shy smile, his head tilted down.

Interview: Bench man on the best and worst about being Taylor Lautner

Barely 10 hours after he arrived on a PAL flight from L.A. at 4 o’clock yesterday morning, Taylor Lautner looked well-rested when he did a round of one-on-ones and a general presscon at a function room of Shangri-La Makati, as charming and as friendly and as genuinely warm as he was during the The STAR’sfour interviews with him for the Twilight series (New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn 1 and 2) in a span of three years at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.
He’s here purposely to drum up for Bench of which he’s the latest A-list endorser. The deal was reported as “breaking news” in Funfare two years ago but Bench big boss Ben Chan clarified yesterday that there was only a plan but no negotiation yet at that time.
A few weeks ago, Ben and company went to L.A. for the contract-signing and the pictorial with Taylor whose larger-than-life image is smiling back at motorists and commuters from giant Bench billboards all over the metropolis.
“He’s really very nice and very friendly,” said Ben of Taylor who was unshaven but still looking drop-dead gorgeous just as he does on the Bench billboards and in his latest starrer, Tracers (showing in 2014),which cements his new career thrust as an action star. This afternoon, he’s set to have a personal appearance at a meet-and-greet with fans in the Mall Of Asia (MOA) Arena and another Bench event on Sunday before he departs back to L.A. that same night.
As soon as your Funfarer entered the Pasay Room of Shangri-La, Taylor stood up and said, “I know this guy,” extending his hand for a warm welcome, “I see you everywhere and finally I’m seeing you at home.”
The casual glad-to-see-you-again amenity set the tone of our 10-minute chat.
No jetlag?
(Smiling) “None at all.”
You only have more than 60 hours here…
“…yeah, not enough time at all.”
So aside from promoting Bench, are you looking forward to doing anything else?
“Uhm, you know… ahh, besides promoting Bench I’m looking forward to seeing my fans. The next day (Sunday), I’m doing two mall visits so I’ll be able to see as many fans as possible in my more than 60 hours here.”
Of course, you’re wearing Bench.
(Touching the long-sleeved sweater that fitted him to a T) “Yes, of course. I love it!”
Ordinarily, what kind of clothes do you prefer?
“I’m pretty simple. Most importantly, I like to be comfortable and I really like jeans and boots and T-shirts. That’s why I like Bench so much. It’s pretty simple; you can dress it up or dress it down, which are nice options.”
If you were to impress a girl, what would you wear from head to foot (as if you needed to…with your looks!)?
(Laughing) “Uhm, I would probably do something simple. If I were trying to impress a girl, I wouldn’t get all super dressed because I would look like I was trying too hard. Instead, I would probably wear what I normally would.”
What type of girls appeals to you most?
“Hmmm, girls who can be just themselves and have fun. I mean, I love to have fun and goof around and be silly, so anybody who can also do that is good for me.”
Let’s talk about your career. Was it hard for you to shake off your Twilight character Jacob Black?
“Right, right! It may be hard because so many fans love that character and they love the franchise but I’m okay with it. I mean, I also love that character and the franchise as well. It’s something my fans and I share. But of course, as an actor I want to move on and do different things and I thank the franchise for allowing me to do that. I just wrapped up the movie Tracers.”
You’re doing well as an action star. In one scene in Tracers, you refused a “double” and you did your own stunt by jumping from a bridge in New York. That was pretty risky!
(Laughing again) “Yeah, that was pretty risky! It was an awesome experience, completely different from anything I’ve done before. The script is very character-driven and that’s what attracted me to it. On top of all that, I got to do some awesome stunts.”
What did you learn from the Twilight Saga that you are applying now as an action star?
“Uhm, I think working with all the directors in the Twilight Saga and even my cast mates…you learn different little things from everyone and you apply that to the work that you do later.”
How much of yourself are you willing to share with your fans…you know, tidbits about your life and career?
“Yeah, yeah! When I’m allowed to talk about it, then I love to keep my fans up-to-date on what I’m doing.”
What’s the worst thing, if any, about being Taylor Lautner?
“Uhm, if I have to choose the worst, it would probably be the simple loss of privacy…sometimes. How do I deal with it? Ahh, you kind of get used to it and kind of adjust to it. You don’t have to let it ruin your life; there are ways around it. You just have to think more and plan a little more.”
And what’s the best thing about being Taylor Lautner?
“I do love traveling so I’ve been able to travel a lot. I love exploring new places and meeting new people and I’ve been able to do that during the past years.”
Did you feel the legendary warmth and hospitality of Filpinos during your first few hours here?
“Yes, I have. I didn’t expect anybody would be at the airport when I arrived. It was 3:45 a.m. and there were hundreds of people so it was a very warm welcome.”

Taylor Lautner says he has contact with the Twilight cast

In an interview with ET! Taylor says he keeps in touch with Eleco Twilight and talks about his new film Tracers.

Watch the video and the interview

ET caught up with Taylor Lautner on the set of his upcoming character-driven action drama Tracersin New York to talk about the film and his transition away from The Twilight Saga, the film series that bolstered his acting career.

Although Lautner undertook roles outside of The Twilight Saga while the series was still in session, including the action film AbductionTracers is his first starring role since the fantasy drama series ended with Breaking Dawn—Part 2 last November.

"It's awesome. I wanted the next movie I did to be very character-driven and challenge me, and this was that," Lautner told ET's special correspondent Tai Beauchamp. "It does have all the action; it's a lot of fun, but what really drew me to this project is the relationships between the characters."
The 21-year-old actor began acting regularly, predominantly on television, from age 12. At 16 in 2008, the first Twilight film was released and his character of "Jacob Black" became an instant fan-favorite.
After filming five films over the span of as many years, Lautner discussed his connection with his former habitual cast mates.

"After four or five years of working together and spending that amount of time together, it's impossible not to [keep in touch]," he said. "I'm close with everyone. ... It's tough with all of our schedules...but...when we're both in L.A., we figure out time to see each other."
Now distancing himself from Twilight as he charts into new waters in his career, Lautner says he's eager to continue learning and growing as an actor.
"I've had the opportunity to work with so many great directors and cast mates. I've learned so much from each one of them, and that's what I want to keep doing," the Grand Rapids, Mich. native said. "I believe you can never stop learning, and I want to keep learning; I want to keep growing."

Taylor Lautner: Grown Ups 2 interview for RTÉ

Yahoo! Interview Taylor Lautner talks about Twilight and how you see yourself 10 years

Taylor Lautner’s got a challenge escaping the giant shadow of his ‘Twilight’ character Jacob, but he’s made a good stab by taking on something totally different in ‘Grown Ups 2’.

He plays Frat Boy Andy, leader of a group of ‘townie-hating’ college jocks.  Basically his character is horrible - he does backflips for no reason – and he’s the antagonist to Adam Sandler and his gang of middle-aged pals (Chris Rock, Kevin James and David Spade). Several critics reckon our Taylor steals every scene he’s in.

It’s the total opposite to the nice-but-dim Jacob from ‘Twilight’, but was this deliberate? We asked the star (watch him above).

“I don’t want to be like ‘OK, in order to get rid of the ‘Twilight’ thing I have to do this now…’ he said. “It wasn’t a planned out thing. When I finished the franchise I wasn’t like ‘Oh, I gotta do a comedy now.’ I knew I wanted to do something different, but then it all made sense. I mean Adam randomly asked to meet with me, and I hadn’t met him before so I was intimidated… He was like ‘Hey I’m doing my first sequel ever, and I would love for you to be a part of it and do a fun cameo in it.’ I was thrilled. I mean it was such an honour coming from him. I’ve grown up my whole life watching all of his movies. And then I was like ‘You know what, that would be really cool. It’s something I’ve never really done before. Totally different. It would be a challenge for me.”

Lautner said he admires actors like Matt Damon, Tom Cruise, George Clooney and Brad Pitt because they’ve mixed up genres, something he hopes to emulate.

“I look at actors that I’ve grown up watching my whole life and they’ve never really done the same thing over and over again. Still today they’re challenging themselves - and I respect that.”

We also asked him the classic job interview question: where do you see yourself in ten year’s time?

“Geez-Louise. Look I hope I’m just still doing this. I really hope so, because this is what I love to do and I still can’t believe I’m sitting here today. It all still feels like a dream. So I hope that you know, I’ve done some different movies, I hope I’ve done some dramas, some action movies, some comedies, and I’m still able to work with people like this and I’m still learning. I believe you can never stop learning, so I hope I’m still learning 10 years down the road.”

Interview: Adam Sandler and Taylor Lautner talk about growing up pains, fears and bullies

In a recent interview, as part of the Grown Ups 2 promotions, Adam Sandler and Taylor Lautner both talked about their experiences while growing up. Here's what Taylor had to say...

Taylor, for his part, revealed that what keeps him grounded is his family. “I owe a lot to my family,” he said. “They definitely keep me grounded. But it was huge for me to work with people in this movie like Adam and Kevin. Everybody in this movie have experienced so much success in their career but still then are so humble and so down-to-earth and treat everyone with respect. It was amazing for a young actor like me to see somebody like that and that’s possible. That’s exactly what I’ll strive for.”
The former “Twilight” actor said that he was excited to be a part of a comedy but he admitted that he was intimidated because “I was like how on earth am I going to be funny when I got Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock and David Spade in this movie. I mean, that’s going to be impossible but they were tremendous. They welcomed me with open arms and brought me into the family and they made it easy.”
Asked what growing up meant to him, Taylor, 21, said, “I think of growing up as just like learning and life experience. I’m obviously very young. I’ve experienced a lot of different things than most kids my age have which I’m crazy thankful about. But I love learning and I believe you can never stop learning. You learn from people who have experienced more than you so that’s why I was so excited to be a part of this movie. All of these guys and girls in this movie are at the top of their careers. They have experienced so much and to be able to be a part of something like this and learn from them is huge for a young actor like myself. They are fantastic role models.”
A karate champion at a very young age when he was growing up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Taylor said that when he was a kid, nobody wanted to test him and see how good he was. “I remember some of the biggest bullies in school,” he narrated. “I was actually small when I was in school. I was like the runt. When I was on the football team, I was the lightest kid. When I heard that the most famous bullies in school would be like ‘Oh, I don’t want to mess with him. He’s a karate expert.’ It made me feel pretty cool. So I didn’t have to deal with bullies too much but I could see it going the opposite way as well and kids wanting to test your skills because you are a martial arts expert.
“But karate worked in a very positive way for me. I learned so much from it. It’s great. It teaches you discipline, hard work and all of that stuff. I definitely applied everything I learned from martial arts into my life.”
Asked what made him laugh, Taylor admitted that Kevin James makes him laugh. “When Kevin opens his mouth it makes me laugh for some reason,” he confessed. “If I could pick somebody who makes me laugh the most, it would probably be him. Don’t get me wrong. I love Adam. He’s made me laugh my entire life but there’s something about Kevin. He can just talk. He’s the funniest person I know. I’ve loved all of his movies. He’s also just the nicest guy. He’s a big teddy bear. He’s awesome. I love him to death. I find him so funny that he could just talk to me and I’d laugh.”
